Jewelry CAD Modeling Services: From Sketch to Production-ready 3D Model

CAD jewelry modeling is the step where an idea is transformed into a precise 3D model. 3DJewels Studio creates jewelry models based on sketches, photographs, technical drawings, or existing files. Each model is prepared for photorealistic rendering, client approval, or delivery to the manufacturer. This page explains what we model, what we need from you, how the work is carried out, and what you receive.

What we model

Rings. Solitaires, halos, three-stone, eternity and bands, signets and custom statement pieces.
Pendants and necklaces. Including chains and clasp details.
Earrings. Studs, drops, hoops and huggies.
Bracelets and bangles.
Collections. A series of pieces that share a design language, built with consistent proportions and details.
Assets and parts. 3D models for jewelry presentation and visualization.

If your piece isn’t listed, send a reference.

Who this service is for

Jewelry brands and retailers that need new styles built quickly, or that want to show a piece online before it is produced.
Independent designers who sketch or sculpt by hand and need a clean digital model for presentation or production.
Workshops and manufacturers that need extra modeling capacity, design variations or rework of existing files.
Clients with an idea. If you have a sketch, an inspiration photograph or a description, we can help turn it into a model you can review and approve.

Two purposes, one starting point

A jewelry model can serve two different targets, and they require different priorities.

Models for visualization. The priority is visual accuracy. Clean surfaces, correct proportions, and believable stone seats and settings that look right at close range. The model feeds directly into our jewelry 3D rendering service or into your own render pipeline.

Models for production. The priority is manufacturability. Wall thickness, prong size, stone seat dimensions, and tolerances that match the requirements of the casting or fabrication process. We can prepare the model for your manufacturer’s review.

Tell us the purpose at the start. It decides how detailed each element needs to be and avoids unnecessary revisions later.

Our process

1. Technical specifications and recommendations

We start with what you have: a sketch, photograph, technical drawing, mood board, or existing 3D file. We also need key dimensions, the metals and stones you plan to use, and the intended purpose of the model.
If the recommendations are incomplete, we list any outstanding issues before we begin. It’s faster to clarify the mounting style or frame shape upfront than to redesign the model after the work is completed.

2. Proportions and structure

Before adding details, we outline the basic shapes: the ring profile, the setting height, the placement of the stones, and the overall silhouette. Most design decisions are made at this stage, and it’s the least expensive way to make changes.
Where useful, we’ll send you a preview of the basic design so you can approve the proportions before we begin working on the finer details.

3. Stones and settings

Stones are placed with millimeter precision. We model bases, prongs, bezels, channels, and pavé settings so that each stone is positioned correctly, with realistic metal contact and no interference.
For standard cuts, we use precise proportion tables. For rare or unusual cuts, we create the stone using a master cut or pattern.

4. Detailing and finishing

At this stage, elements that make the product unique are added: engraving, grain, texture, hand-crafted irregularities, hidden halos, openwork trim, and decorative profiles.
The smoothness and integrity of the surfaces are checked, as defects invisible in the preview window appear as reflection distortions in the render.

5. Review and refinement

You receive preliminary images or a file for review. At the beginning of the work, we agree on two rounds of revisions to ensure focused feedback and a predictable schedule.
Changes to a clearly defined specification, such as a different stone size or a thinner ring, are straightforward. Changes to the concept itself are assessed separately.

6. Final files and delivery

After approval, we provide the model in the formats you require. We work in MatrixGold/Rhinoceros, Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, Blender and export to:

  • 3DM (Rhino’s proprietary software)
  • STEP
  • STL
  • FBX
  • OBJ
  • GLB/GLTF
  • Render-ready scene files when combined with our jewelry 3D rendering service.

From 3D model to images

Many clients use CAD modeling and rendering together. The model is immediately transferred to the rendering scene without any conversion, saving time and eliminating the risk of losing detail between stages. You can order both services in a single project or use them separately. For a complete visualization workflow, visit our 3D jewelry rendering services page.

Timelines and pricing

Delivery time depends on piece complexity, the quality of references, and the number of revisions. A simple solitaire ring is usually modeled in 1-3 working days. A complex piece with pavé and engraving may take 4+ working days.
Each project is quoted individually. Send your references and requirements through the quote form, and you will receive a clear estimate.

Frequently asked questions

A hand-drawn sketch, photograph, technical drawing, mood board, or existing 3D file. The more accurate the source material, the fewer revisions will be required.

Yes, within limits. A photograph shows one angle, so we confirm hidden details and key dimensions with you before building.

3DM as the native format; FBX, OBJ, STL.
STEP, GLB/GLTF, MAX, C4D, BLEND on request. Other formats can be discussed.

Our models are prepared for visualization, and we can adapt them to production requirements as a separate task (we build models to your manufacturer’s specifications, so please send their requirements).

Two rounds of revisions on a defined brief. Additional changes are quoted separately.

Yes, we can repair, improve, or expand your file, or rebuild it if the structure is not suitable for further work.

Yes. Visualization is available as a separate service or as part of a single, integrated project.

The client owns the delivered model unless otherwise agreed to any license conditions.
